Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park is an award winning purpose built bike park set in 250 hectares of bird filled native bush. 

Whether you're a walker, runner or mountain biker there's a track at Makara Peak for you.

The Makara Peak Supporters were established in 1998 to plan and oversee the development of the park and to help restore native forest. Our aim is to create a world-class mountain bike park with dual use (cycling and walking) tracks for all skill levels, in restored native forest.

A relaxed teams race on some of the best singletrack in New Zealand...and the Makara Peak Supporters' annual fundraiser.

Weed Control Operations

31 August - 11 December 2015

Weed control operations will be conducted within 200m of the main entrance of the Park in order to support ecological restoration.

The work will involve the use of herbicides and the felling of small trees. The least amount of the least toxic herbicides will be used by gel application and spraying.

Spraying will not be conducted on weekends, after 3pm on weekdays or during the school holidays, 26 Sept - 11 Oct.

Makara Peak has over 40km of tracks to suit riders from beginner to expert. Take the whole family for a cruise around Koru and Lazy Fern, check out the spectacular summit views and berm action on the Grand Loop or get your adrenaline pumping on the gnarly downhills of Vertigo and Trickle Falls. 


Makara Peak is not just a mountain bike park, it is also a conservation park home to a variety of native plants and animals. The Park has 250 hectares of native bush at various stages of regeneration and makes up an important of Wellington’s Outer Green Belt.
